Her Best Steps works with young women, and their safety and wellbeing come before everything else. Safeguarding isn't an add-on for us. It's the condition of the work.

What we commit to

• A named safeguarding lead for every session and event, trained in safeguarding adults.
• Trained facilitators who hold the space and listen, and who signpost to support rather than counsel.
• Clear signposting to specialist services, available in every room we run.
• Consent and privacy respected in everything we capture, in line with UK data protection law.
• Safer recruitment, including DBS checks where a role requires one.

How we handle a concern

If someone tells us something that worries us about their safety, or someone else's, our facilitators stay calm, listen, and pass it to our safeguarding lead the same day. We never promise secrecy where someone may be at risk. Where needed, we work with the appropriate statutory or specialist services. In an emergency, we call 999.

The frameworks we work within

Our safeguarding approach reflects our responsibilities under relevant law, including the Care Act 2014, the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, the Equality Act 2010, the Human Rights Act 1998, the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and the Data Protection Act 2018.
